La maison à Cenon

Welcome graphic

As you may know, my mom has been going to France every summer the past few years, to undertake an ambitious building and renovation project on the family home. This house was built by my grandparents not long after the Second World War. Mom remembers living in it when the second floor was still under construction, and a few years ago she even found the metal moulds Pépé used to make the cement blocks to build the walls!

After 50 years, however, the house needed a face lift. The project included a hook-up to the city waste disposal system (it all went into a septic field before), completely rewiring the house to comply with new electrical bylaws, replacing the stairwell with a bathroom and transforming the main floor into a separate one-bedroom suite for rental. Then came the building phase: an addition on the garden side for a new kitchen/livingroom/diningroom area with a staircase connecting to the second floor bedrooms.

In these pages you'll be able to view the photos that were taken as the project was completed... including the unique wine cellar built into the floor of the front door landing! Welcome, and enjoy the tour!
